Hello thar! ^_^

I had some free time lately, so I managed to finish this small prototype game -

It’s not very complex, just a simple toy for someone who hasn’t seen snow in real life. I don’t plan to continue the project, since it’s pretty boring. Here’s the Scirra forum thread for this game -

Don’t know what I’ll be doing next, probably work on that unnamed game and maybe update the games and tutorials pages.

Happy New Year to everybody!

Here is something I did in Lua and Love2D a few days ago -

Don’t ask me why I started learning Lua, I have no idea.

Also, today this blog is officially 2 years old!

New year for me starts with…exams, I have my Physics Lab finals on 2 Jan. So when everybody else will be celebrating new year, I’ll be learning how to use an oscilloscope to mark a B-H curve. This will be followed by semester finals from 13th. More misery ahead.

Well, enough of the boring stuff, here are some of my resolutions for 2012 -

Churn out some more games.
Learn Java and basic Android development.
Improve my graphics skills. My disfigured 16×16 pixel human sprites are begging for improvement.
Resolutions from last year.

And these, related to my real life(*gasp* This guy has a life! 0.0)-

Learn Kannada. It’s one of major languages spoken where I live. (If you go to a college where 95% of the people speak a language that you don’t, you’ll probably realize how important is this.)
Rest of the stuff from 2011. ( Didn’t have much luck on those in 2011)

The rumours of me being abducted by aliens are highly exaggerated, was just too busy with college.

Previously whenever there was a long gap without any news, I managed to create something in Construct to make up for it, except this time. I couldn’t dabble with Construct for a long time, mostly because all of my free time was eaten by Nitronic Rush, Masjin and Dirt.

Now for some news related to that unnamed game. I’m planning to redo it from scratch, removing elements like story, layout based levels, dialogs etc. The new plan includes -

-Remove the story, make an arcade game, something along the lines of N.
-Make levels array based and load them on runtime instead of using separate layout for each level.
-Release a USABLE level editor for the game.
-Basic modding support like custom tilesets, sprites etc.
-Give this thing a proper name. (I too wouldn’t be happy if people call me by ‘that unnamed guy’ ) Right now, it’s named nRepulse, but it’ll change by the time the game is finshed.(If it is fortunate enough to get completed )

Currently the development hasn’t even started, everything is still paper. Hopefully I’ll get out of this Nitronic slump soon to begin some actual development.

Here’s a simple space invaders clone I did to help someone on the Scirra forums. Pretty simple to make, only the enemy movement was a bit tricky.

Post Holidays Update

So yeah, holidays have ended and college started a week ago. Pretty tough if you ask me since I had become pretty lazy in the last 4 months. Let’s see what did I actually do in those 4 months ( apart from sleeping 10+ hours) -

Wrote 4 tutorials, participated in One Buck Challenge, Ludum Dare. Played NFS World, Alien Swarm, Victory, Trackmania: Nations. Hmmm, not bad. I could have done something else too that doesn’t involve my computer, but well…it’s too late now.

Last week was pretty fun too, rooted my SE X10 Mini Pro and installed Android 2.3 on it, got some games from a Humble Indie Bundle give away, still I haven’t tried them all.

Regarding my WIP games, that unnamed game is still sitting on my hard drive begging for some attention, planning to work on it next weekend.

Indian Indie Game Developers

Honestly, till now I thought most of the other Indie developers from India were like me. Barely a dozen of them hiding in the darkest corners of the interwebs and quietly making games just for fun. Ludum Dare Entry

Ludum Dare 21 ended sometime ago, I submitted a game for it. It was the first LD for me, feels really good that I managed to whip out something in those 48 hours.
Here’s some screenshots of the game -

The game is a platformer with a focus on narration. Here’s the link for my compo entry -

The end result is vastly different from what I had planned originally, probably because I had to rush to make it through the deadlines but still working under the pressure of deadlines seems to really productive for me.
